Red Cross Partnership

Part of a national effort led by Feeding America and the American Red Cross (ARC) to strengthen the emergency response network in communities across the country, the Food Bank For New York City partners with the ARC in Greater New York to prepare for and respond to a wide range of disasters. By coupling the Food Bank's expertise and efficiency in food distribution with the Red Cross's capabilities in responding to disasters, the organizations are prepared to deliver nourishing food, water and supplies quickly to New Yorkers affected by crises from summer blackouts or winter storms to terrorist acts.

As a part of the partnership, the Food Bank stockpiles water, sports drinks, energy bars and other basic supplies and works on joint training exercises with the ARC in Greater New York in preparation for potential disasters. These activities prepare the organizations to work hand in hand to distribute as much as eight million pounds of food to New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs in the event of a disaster.

For more information on our partnership with the American Red Cross in Greater New York, contact Elizabeth Romano, Logistics Supervisor.
