The IRS recognizes the Food Bank For New York City as the largest coordinator of civilian tax assistance in the country.

Food Bank volunteers, who have received IRS certification, help provide as much as $100 million in tax refunds for New York City's working poor annually.

Our Food Program Network


Food Bank For New York City works in partnership with more than 1,000 food assistance programs throughout the five boroughs to help get food to New Yorkers at risk of going hungry. Our network of programs includes food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, low-income daycare centers, after-school and summer programs, Open Market BackPack Programs, rehabilitation centers, shelters and youth services.

Our member programs work in partnership with the Food Bank to help provide nutritious and balanced meals and groceries to New Yorkers at risk of hunger — the majority of whom are women, children, seniors, the working poor and people with disabilities.

The Food Bank offers a wide range of services and resources to help member programs better serve their clients, emphasizing a continuum of services geared toward capacity building and making connections with available resources including:

  • Model Programs including the Open Market BackPack, Tax Assistance and food stamp programs
  • Grant Administration
  • Educational Workshops
  • Site Monitoring including technical assistance
  • Customer Service
  • Online Agency Intranet, including online ordering, tools and resources
  • Volunteer Referral
