Executive Staff


Áine Duggan, MA, Vice President of Research, Policy & Education
As the Vice President of Research, Policy & Education, Áine Duggan oversees the development of research and policy that informs the Food Bank's work with political and community leaders to address the root causes of hunger and implement cost-effective solutions. Since 1990, Áine has worked with organizations in New York, including the Coalition for the Homeless, as well as in Ireland, and has developed public education, advocacy, policy and direct services to address homelessness, HIV/AIDS, refugee rights and immigration, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. Áine has also served on the board of directors of AIDS Service Organization in Dublin, Ireland and is a co-founder and former board member of a New York–based group that addresses economic issues in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Prior to taking up full-time residence in the United States in 1995, she graduated with an MA from University College Dublin, Ireland.

David Goldstein, Vice President of Operations
As Vice President of Operations for the Food Bank For New York City, David Goldstein oversees all operations, including food procurement, warehousing and distribution to agencies throughout the city of New York. Prior to joining the Food Bank, David spent 27 years with United Parcel Service. During his time with UPS, David held managerial positions in Business Development, Learning & Development, Human Resources, Government & Community Affairs and Operations. For two years, David was assigned UPS Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta and was subsequently honored as a Centennial Employee. David is an active member of the Board of Directors for the Greenwich Village/Chelsea and Midtown Chambers of Commerce and is involved with various other charitable organizations. 

Alyssa Herman, Vice President of Fund Development
Alyssa Herman was the Development Director for Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), the world's largest independent international medical relief organization, which was awarded the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize. Alyssa led her fast paced Development Department in achieving aggressive annual growth, raising more than $150 million in 2008. Prior to this role, Alyssa served as the organization's Director of Marketing and defined the organization's direct response campaigns to brand MSF's messages effectively. MSF's donor base grew from 100,000 in 1995 to more than 1,000,000 in 2008. Alyssa was the Vice President of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications for BRAC. Alyssa holds a BA from Yeshiva University and was a Magna Cum Laude recipient. She speaks regularly at fundraising conferences, is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the DMA, and has served as a board member of the Direct Marketing Fundraising Association (DMFA) from 1998–2002 and at present.

Lisa Jakobsberg, RD, Vice President of Marketing & Business Partnerships
A veteran marketing and public relations professional, Lisa Jakobsberg joined the Food Bank in 2001 to establish a new brand identity and design an integrated communications and marketing strategy that would expand the Food Bank's reputation and influence. Prior to becoming Vice President of Marketing & Business Partnerships, Lisa served as Senior Director of Communications & Marketing at the Food Bank for eight years. She oversees a team of talented professionals in communications, media, marketing, website/online outreach, business partnerships and special events to help raise visibility and corporate support for the Food Bank.

Prior to joining the Food Bank, Lisa was senior vice president/group manager at a public relations firm specializing in food policy and product promotions for Fortune 500 companies and commodity trade organizations, including Tropicana, The Campbell Soup Company and the America Egg Board. She has led multi-tier education campaigns leading to new and revised health policy guidelines adopted by the American Heart Association and American Academy of Pediatrics, and worked with world-renowned researchers on international symposiums, scientific advisory panels and public relations strategies to promote health benefits of consumer products. Lisa received a B.S. in Nutrition from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She is a registered dietitian.

John Miller, MBA, SPHR, Chief of Staff
Chief of Staff John Miller brings more than thirteen years of executive experience in government, higher education and the nonprofit sector to the Food Bank For New York City.

During his career, John has served as Commissioner of Public Works and Executive Director of Housing for the Town of Babylon and was recognized at the time for being one of the youngest Commissioners in New York. After a significant period of time with Babylon, he moved on to become Chief Operating Officer of a prestigious multi-campus New York college and the Chief Administrative Officer of a large health and human service nonprofit organization.

In addition to his full-time responsibilities, he has served as Vice Chairman of a local major political party and as an Adjunct Instructor of Business Management. John received his BBA and MBA from Hofstra University and is a Certified SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources).

Carlos Rodriguez, MS, Vice President of Agency Relations & Benefit Access
Carlos Rodriguez has more than ten years of experience serving low-income New Yorkers by working closely with organizations, government officials and funders to identify, develop and implement strategies to address hunger and poverty in New York. As Vice President of Agency Relations & Programs, Carlos oversees a network of more than 1,000 programs that provide food assistance throughout New York City.

Prior to joining the Food Bank, Carlos served as Chair of the NYC Food Stamp Task Force and as Director at what was then the nation's largest multilingual food stamp outreach program. He also co-founded United Way of NYC's Food Card Access Project and was recognized with the 2001 Victory Against Hunger Award for food stamp initiatives under his direction. As a policy advocate, he is heavily engaged in state, local and national efforts to increase access to food and other support to families. Carlos has administered trainings on tax credits, public health insurance, child nutrition programs and food stamp eligibility and budgeting to organizations throughout New York. He has served as spokesperson to the press, public and elected officials on hunger and poverty issues as well as testified at public hearings before the State Legislature, New York City Council and the United States Department of Agriculture. Carlos has a BA in sociology from the College of the Holy Cross, an MS in urban policy analysis and management from the Milano Graduate School at the New School University and is an alumnus of the CORO Foundation's Leadership New York Program.

"Too many in our great city are hungry, not because there isn't enough food but because they lack access. It's a privilege to be a part of a network that provides that access as well as advocates to strengthen our government's safety net — and raises awareness to the complex issues affecting hunger. Together we make a difference."
