Charity Navigator — the nation's largest independent charity evaluator — gives the Food Bank For New York City its fourth, consecutive four-star rating for effective and fiscally responsible management. Only 6 percent of charities rated have received at least four consecutive four-star evaluations, demonstrating our continued commitment to responsibly addressing the issue of food poverty.
Charity Navigator — the nation's largest independent charity evaluator — gives the Food Bank For New York City its top four-star rating for excellence and efficiency in the successful management of organizational finances for the third year in a row — an honor received by only 9 percent of the organizations reviewed by Charity Navigator.
Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest, The Nation's Food Bank Network) presents the Food Bank with their second Mighty Apple Award for the most fresh produce collected and distributed to the network. In fiscal year 2005/06, the Food Bank distributed 11.1 million pounds of fresh produce. For a third year, the Empire State Building is illuminated orange in recognition of the Food Bank's Can-Do Awards Dinner, honoring longtime partners in helping to end hunger.
Lucy Cabrera, Food Bank President and CEO, receives the Women of Color in the Nonprofit Community Award from the School of Public Affairs Alumni Association at Baruch College. The Food Bank is nominated as a Community Champion Organization by New York City Newsday. The Empire State Building is illuminated orange for a second year in recognition of the Food Bank's Can-Do Awards Dinner honoring longtime partners in helping to end hunger. The Food Bank receives Legislative Resolution from the State of New York marking June 3, 2004 as National Hunger Awareness Day in New York.
The Food Bank is awarded the Community Service Award by the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty. Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest, The Nation's Food Bank Network) presents the Food Bank with the 2003 Model Program Award for a Public Awareness/Awareness-Raising Campaign for the NYC Bank-to-Bank Partnership. In its second year, the partnership grew exponentially, tripling the number of partners and helping to provide 630,000 meals to New Yorkers in need. The Food Bank receives a Certificate of Appreciation from the New York City Office of Emergency Management and the City of New York Office of the Mayor for September 11 efforts. The Partner of the Year Award is presented to the Food Bank at the Federation Employment and Guidance Services, Inc. (F.E.G.S) Annual Award Ceremony for outstanding contribution. The Food Bank receives Proclamation from the Office of the Mayor marking April 2 as Food Bank For New York City Day.
